As someone who is relatively new to living in London, there’s loads of restaurants and chains I haven’t heard of.
Much to my disadvantage, Caravan was one of them – until last Friday night when I went for the very first time.
There are a few different Caravan restaurants across London but I went to the one in King’s Cross.
I love King’s Cross because it’s a good mix of buzzy and lively, but without being too busy.
The restaurant was huge with loads of tables and it was full – which in my opinion says it all.
There was a really good atmosphere, and we sat right in the middle of the restaurant which helped.
It was a Friday night, I fancied a couple of drinks, and this place was already really hitting the spot.
The staff were really friendly, and helped to recommend some drinks.
I had a Juicebox, which was a sweet cocktail, and my boyfriend had a Picante.
There’s a real mix of options on the menu – going from small plates, to grains and bowls, to pizza, to sides, and some really tempting desserts.
To start with, we chose the edamame, burrata and steamed cod dumplings from the small plates section.
The staff were really accommodating for someone who can occasionally be a fussy eater (guilty) and brought lots of different sauces on the sides.
All the starters were tasty, not too big in size, and set us up nicely for main courses.
My boyfriend chose the baked miso cod, which he really enjoyed.
It had a slight spice to it and came with sweet potato on the side.
I found it difficult to decide what to have, and ended up going with a classic option of a margherita pizza.
I was worried I’d regret it, but I definitely didn’t.
I do like pizza, but I don’t choose it very often, so when I do I like it to be a good one – and this certainly was.
I often struggle to finish a whole pizza but there was absolutely no struggling here and I really, really enjoyed it.
It tasted authentic, wasn’t too greasy, and was really really enjoyable.
We shared some kale and chips on the side, too.
As someone who can never resist a dessert (unfortunately for my waist line), we ordered the caramelised brioche with a scoop of mango sorbet which we choose in any restaurant.
The brioche was absolutely divine, and like absolutely nothing I’d ever tried before.
It came with miso caramel and vanilla ice cream and was a match made in heaven for someone with a sweet tooth like me.
We finished our evening with another of the same cocktails as we’d had previously.
Some restaurants you go to, and you just feel good from, and Caravan in King’s Cross was definitely one of them.
