Police have confirmed that knife crime and anti-social behaviour were targeted as part of their operation at Bromley College.

Residents on social media reported seeing officers and dogs searching the college in Rookery Lane at around 11am yesterday (March 1).

London South East Colleges confirmed that it has been working in partnership with the Metropolitan Police, who were carrying out a routine search and screening operation at the Bromley Campus.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said the operation targeted knife crime and anti-social behaviour in the surrounding area.

Officers worked alongside school staff to carry out weapons sweeps by patrolling the areas and open spaces.

Around 30 stop and searches were carried out for drug offences with one male given a community revolution for possession of cannabis.

The college is “committed” to ensure students can live safely in Bromley and will continue to work the police to achieve this.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “In partnership with London South East Colleges, officers carried out a pre-planned operation in the vicinity of a college on Rookery Lane, Bromley on Tuesday, 1 March officers.

“The operation targeted knife crime and anti-social behaviour in the surrounding area.

“Officers worked alongside school staff to carryout weapons sweeps, patrolling the residential areas and open spaces ensuring any ASB was dealt with promptly.
