Lewisham Council has issued a statement on school closures ahead of tomorrow's planned teacher strikes in London and the south east of England.
On March 2, 2023, teachers in London and the south east of England will be going on strike over pay and working conditions.
Several demonstrations will be taking place across London.
90.44 per cent of teachers in England that are NEU members voted in favour to taking industrial action on a turnout of 53.27 per cent.
However, according to NEU, support staff didn’t meet the Government’s thresholds with a ballot result of 84 per cent of members voting in favour of the strike with a turnout of 46.46 per cent.
Planned strike days that could “potentially impact” Lewisham schools include Thursday, March 2, Wednesday, March 15, and Thursday, March 16.
Lewisham Council has advised that parents and guardians should consult school websites directly for updates on school closures.
It added that school closures will depend on staffing numbers due to staff that decide to take strike action.

A spokesperson for Lewisham Council told the News Shopper that school headteachers are currently working on “contingency plans” based on the guidance from the Department of Education.
A spokesperson for Lewisham Council said: “For updates on school closures, please visit school websites directly.
“Decisions about school closures will depend on how many staff decide to take strike action and headteachers are currently working on contingency plans based on the guidance issued by the Department for Education”.
