A South East London restaurant has received three rosettes at the latest AA Rosette Awards placing it among the best in the country.

Turnips with Tomas Lidakevicius is in Borough Market and was rewarded one of the highest accolades by the awarding body.

In the inspector's review of the award-winning restaurant, they said: "Tomas’s open kitchen delivers creative, light, prettily plated dishes characterised by brushstrokes of flavour; think Jerusalem artichoke with scallop and shellfish velouté followed by lamb, black cabbage and chervil root."

Turnips with Tomas Lidakevicius's design is described as a "unique affair, with a high-energy backing track from the sprawling market and trains running above."

How are AA rosettes awarded?

On the AA-rated trips website, it states: "AA Rosettes are awarded by our team of inspectors, who have an unrivalled wealth of experience in assessing culinary excellence.

"Restaurants with 3 Rosettes have achieved culinary standards that demand national recognition well beyond their local area.

"The cooking will be underpinned by the selection and sympathetic treatment of the highest quality ingredients.

"Timing, seasoning and the judgment of flavour combinations will be consistently excellent.

"These virtues will tend to be supported by other elements such as intuitive service and a well-chosen wine list."
