A man has been taken to hospital after being found in the engine compartment of a coach in Lee Green.

At 6:55am this morning (February 24), ambulance, police and fire crews were called to the scene of an incident at Lee Green on the junction between Eltham Road and Courtland Avenue.

A man was taken to hospital after being treated by ambulance crews at the scene.

He was found in the engine compartment of a coach that had come to the UK from France.

He was detained by police.

According to AA Maps, the incident caused “long delays” with congestion on the south circular.

Traffic towards Lewisham was stopped for 90 minutes until around 7:40am.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 6.55am today (24 February) to reports of an incident on the junction between Courtland Avenue and Eltham Road, SE12.

“We sent an ambulance crew and an incident response officer to the scene.

“We treated a man at the scene before taking them to hospital.”

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called at 06:48hrs on Friday, 24 February, after a man was found in the engine compartment of a coach in Eltham Road, close to the junction with Courtland Avenue, SE12.

"The coach had arrived in the UK from France.

"Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade.

"The man was detained and taken to hospital as a precaution.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances."
