Police have said that there is nothing at this stage to suggest that a crash which killed an 8-year-old boy and hospitalised “his brother and dad” relates to terror or a hate crime.

Officers were called at 7.30pm yesterday (February 19) after reports of a motorcycle crash with a group of pedestrians on Plumstead Road, near the junction with Lenton Street.

A cabinet member for culture at Greenwich council has claimed in a tweet that the “family” were “hit by a speeding motorbike” whilst on their way to prayer at the Greenwich Islamic Centre.

Paramedics and air ambulance attended the scene where a motorcyclist and three pedestrians were found injured.

A man, aged in his 40s, and a ten-year-old boy, who were crossing the road together with the younger boy, were taken to hospital suffering serious injuries.

They are both now fighting for their lives.

Police have not confirmed any relationship between them.

Adel Khairehc, cabinet member for culture at Greenwich council, said on Twitter: “Horrific scenes outside @GICMosque a father and his two young children were hit by a speeding motorcycle on the way to prayer.”

The rider of the motorbike, who is 20-years-old, was also taken to hospital his condition has been assessed as not life threatening.

No arrests have been made at this stage and enquires into the circumstances of the crash continue.

Police are now appealing for information on the incident – if you can help police call 101 or tweet @MetCC and quote CAD 6036/19Feb.
