We’ve rounded up the top five places to grab a delicious pancake in Greenwich ahead of Pancake Day.
Pancake day, or Shrove Tuesday, is the traditional feast day before the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday.
It’s commonly known as the last chance to indulge in your favourite treats before 40 days of fasting.
So, whether you’re craving fluffy minis, American style or a stack of chocolate oozing pancakes, we’ve got you covered this Pancake Day.
1. Planet Pancake – Greenwich Market
Planet Pancake is home to mini pancakes which are “light and fragrant”, with plenty of sauces and toppings to chose from.
Trading at Greenwich Market, these little bites of heaven are available all year round, and can be bought for birthday parties, weddings, festivals and many more.
One TripAdvisor reviewer said the mini pancakes are made “quickly, are cheap and taste excellent”.
The reviewer added: “I would recommend this place to anyone who asked.”
2. Bill’s Restaurant – Nelson Road
Not only does Bill’s offer a quaint, aesthetically pleasing place to dine in, it also offers the ultimate pancake to sink your teeth into.
The buttermilk pancake bacon five stack is a popular choice for Bill’s lovers, and one TripAdvisor reviewer said the pancakes comes with a “mini pot of maple syrup”, so you can chose how much or little you’d like to top off your pancake stack.
Another reviewer said: “The decor is lovely, and the food was delicious.
“We had the full fry and the pancakes with bacon - both yummy.”
3. The Green Café – Greenwich High Road
The Green Café is a crowd favourite amongst locals in Greenwich and is known for its wide range of food items, including organic chorizo, pesto eggs, and waffles.
I like to think waffles are the ‘long lost siblings’ of pancakes, and The Green Café has plenty of sweet and savoury options, including breakfast waffles, Canadian waffles, and classic waffles.
One reviewer said: “Here’s a tip, just a detour two minutes along the main road is this terrific modern café selling breakfasts.
“The pancakes and syrup are aimed at North American customers and their lunches are a very reasonable price.”
4. River Gardens Café – Unit 2, 20 River Gardens Walk
This relaxed and boho café is perfect for Greenwich lovers wanting a chilled, satisfying afternoon.
The menu includes homemade buttermilk pancakes which include fresh berries, cinnamon, and maple syrup.
And that’s not all.
River Gardens Café also offers a stack of pancakes topped with chocolate spread, chopped banana, hazelnuts, cinnamon, and blueberries, and can be topped off with a spoonful of vanilla ice cream.
One reviewer dubbed it as a “hidden gem with great service”.
The reviewer added: “We went for breakfast with a few friends and honestly it was such a great find.
“Dog friendly and family friendly.
“The service was great from all the servers and the manager was so friendly.
“The food was delicious, and we shall be back.
“I’ll definitely be telling more friends about this lively cafe.
“The pancakes and sticky toffee pudding are a must.
“We even took some slices home to indulge in later.”
5. Greenwich Grind – Nelson Road
This venue is an all-day restaurant and cocktail bar in the heart of Greenwich, minutes away from the market and the Cutty Sark.
It’s said to be the “perfect” space for drinking and dining, with the ultimate pancake on the menu being the buttermilk hotcake, which includes maple syrup , summer berries, clotted cream, seeds and grains.
The pancakes are even an option if you head to Grind for a bottomless brunch – what could go wrong?
One TripAdvisor reviewer said: “’I’d been to a few grind coffee shops before, but the Greenwich branch is by far my favourite.
“It’s huge, has a great buzz and the decor is gorgeous.
“My best friend and I visited on my birthday for pancakes and lots of cocktails.
“The staff were all super friendly and I cannot recommend this place enough.”
