A family has been left devastated after claiming “two loose huskies mauled their pet cat to death” in their own front garden in Petts Wood.
Shannon Martin was visiting her mum’s home on January 21 when her mum heard a loud commotion in the front garden at around 5.30pm.
The noise turned out to be two huskies attacking Peggy the cat in her front garden on Ash Row - with no owner to be seen.
Shannon said that the dogs had Peggy, who was around 12-years-old, pinned up against the back door.
Shannon tried to do “everything she could to get the dogs off of her” but the dogs “weren’t phased by her at all and continued attacking the cat”.
She told the News Shopper that she was scared to get too physically involved with the dogs.
Shannon explained: “It went through my head knowing that there's this big risk – there is these two big dogs that could turn on me at any time.
“It’s traumatising even now – if someone is walking their dogs off the lead you just have that worry now.
“What if a young child was walking a dog around that area at the time? God knows what would have happened.
“We have all been really affected - for this to have happened in my mum's garden, it is one of those things that you would never imagine happening.”
Shannon’s mum’s partner managed to scare away the dogs by loudly bashing recycling bins - causing them to flee in the direction of Parkfield Recreation Ground.

Despite looking around the area to see where the dogs had gone, they were nowhere to be found.
The family reported the incident to the police due to concern that this could happen to other pets in the area or that the dogs could even be a danger to other people.
There have been no arrests and police say that enquiries are ongoing.
Peggy, who was a ragdoll cat, died wrapped in a blanket in the car on the way to the vets.
Shannon, who grew up at the Petts Wood home but now lives in Biggin Hill, describes Peggy “such a loving, calm family cat” who “loved cuddles and attention”.
She added: “She was an old cat but we did think we had a good six years left with her.
“You can never be prepared for that - It was horrifying especially for the kids as well.”
Shannon’s niece, 15, and nephew, 14 who live at the home in Petts Wood have been particular upset with Peggy’s death.
The family explained that they were overwhelmed with the amount of support and condolences from their community via the NextDoor app but were also “made aware from local residents that these same dogs have been involved in many other incidents in and around this area for a few years”.
Shannon wants to raise awareness about the attack and hopes that someone may have more information that could help police as she “does not want this happening to anyone else”.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at around 6:30pm on Saturday, 21 January to a report that a cat had been attacked and killed by two dogs outside of a property on Ash Row, Bromley.
“Enquiries are ongoing; no arrests have been made.”
