The victim of a shooting was reportedly “gunned down” by a group in balaclavas after a car chase in Erith.

A man was discovered with a gunshot wound in Hillside after a shooting on Pembroke Road just before 9pm yesterday (February 9).

Despite the efforts of paramedics to save him, he died at the scene.

Witnesses told the Evening Standard that a “gang wearing balaclavas” shot the man following a car chase.

Witness Audrey Alison said: “There were four of them in balaclavas. They had chased his car, smashed into him then shot him.

“There were two shots - one after the other, quickly. It looked like a targeted hit.”

Another witness told the Evening Standard: “I heard two loud bangs, I looked out and there was a group in balaclavas.

“They took off and the poor bloke was left there dying.”

Pembroke Road is currently cordoned off by police as investigations take place.

Officers have not provided any further details about the man.

Enquiries are under way to confirm his identity and inform his next of kin.

No arrests have been made following the incident.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “A murder investigation is under way following a shooting in Erith.

“Police were called at approximately 20:50hrs on Thursday, 9 February to reports of shots fired in Pembroke Road, Erith.

“Officers and London Ambulance Service attended.

“A male – no further details – was found a short distance away in Hillside, suffering a gunshot injury. Despite the best efforts of the emergency services he died at the scene.

“Enquiries are under way to confirm his identity and inform his next of kin.

“Road closures remain in place at the location.

“No arrests; enquiries into the circumstances continue.

“Anyone with information that could assist police is asked to call 101 or tweet @MetCC and quote CAD7135/9Feb.
