I tried vegan food at Bill’s – one of Greenwich’s most recommended dog friendly restaurants - and had the best vegan burger I’ve ever tasted.

Veganuary is still very much a hot topic right now with there being a few more days left of January.

This Veganuary, I was invited to Bill’s to sample their vegan menu.

It is located on Nelson Road in Greenwich, a stone's throw away from local attractions like Greenwich Market, the Cutty Sark and the Royal Naval College.

I went with my plus one on a Saturday when it was thronging with hungry diners.

Bill’s gets busy on a weekend, so expect a 45-minute wait if you haven’t booked a table in advance.

They are a popular eating spot in Greenwich with 2,654 reviews on Google with a 4.2-star average rating.

Bill’s is also a popular spot for dog owners as they welcome dogs of all shapes and sizes to join their families at the restaurant.

Although my dog Rosie is my working guide dog, it is always a plus to visit a restaurant that you know openly welcomes dogs to visit.

They also provided dog bowls of water to their canine visitors and all of the waiters give the dogs lots of attention whilst they are there.

It had a good range of cocktails on offer for around £7, I tried the Hedgerow Fizz which was a mix of elderflower cordial, prosecco and frozen blackberry.

They also offered a range of non-alcoholic mocktails for anyone who doesn’t drink – and these looked equally as interesting as the alcoholic ones.

To start with, I tried the Chimichurri Roasted Beetroot which came with hummus, mint and a flatbread.

The hummus was topped with date molasses which gave it a slight sweetness and really reinvented how I see hummus.

I was eager to try the Vegan Dirty Burger which came with vegan mayo, vegan cheese and rosemary chips.

The patty to the burger tasted surprisingly meat-like.

It was thick and, had I not known it was vegan, would have passed to me as real meat.

My plus one tried the Vegan Bacon and Chicken Wellington which had a delicious flaky pastry and had a slight smokey flavour.

I ordered the Vegan Chocolate Tart, which came with a salted caramel sauce and ice cream, the tarte was rich without tasting too much like dark chocolate.

It had a slight crunch with little pieces of crumbled chocolate biscuit, and it was like eating a little piece of heaven.

My plus one tried the Bill’s Flowerpot which was just about the cutest dessert I have seen, it was a strawberry cheesecake made in an edible pink flowerpot with “chocolate soil” and edible flowers and strawberries.

This option wasn’t vegan as it contained milk, but I did try it as someone who eats dairy - and the flavours were great.

The chocolate and strawberry flavour worked well together, and this dessert was probably the most Instagram worthy dessert I’ve ever photographed.

All in all, this is a great restaurant to visit, they cater to everyone including your dogs and it was a warm and welcoming place to spend a Saturday in Greenwich.

Either way, I’ll be heading back there again in the future for more.
