Serving Met Police Officer David Carrick was part of the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command before being charged with 49 counts of sexual offences.
The armed officer pleaded guilty to 48 counts of which 24 offences were for rape.
Carrick joined the Met in 2001 and was later made an armed officer as part of the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, known as one of the highest commands for officers.
Former Met Officer Wayne Couzens who was found guilty of the kidnap, murder and rape of Sarah Everard was also part of the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command.
Many have since questioned how the officers become armed officers in the specialist branch of the Met.
What is the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command?
The Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Commandos is part of the Met and its primary purpose is the protection of the diplomatic and government communities in Central London.
The officers can be armed or unarmed and are also responsible for access control and security and Downing Street and New Scotland Yard.
