Police have issued an updated statement after a man was detained and taken to hospital in Bexleyheath.
A man was reportedly acting suspiciously in Talehangers Close at 9.30am yesterday (January 10).
Officers, London Ambulance Service, and London’s Air Ambulance were called to the scene and found a man experiencing a mental health crisis.
An ambulance crew, a medic in a fast response car, and an incident response office also attended.
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police confirmed today (January 11) that the man was detained under common law.
Police say the man then ran off towards the Cricket Club on Park View Road in Welling.
A taser was deployed as the man reportedly began to self-harm in order to prevent further injury.
He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.
His injuries are believed to be not life-threatening.
Police are currently working to inform his next of kin.
A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said:
“We were called at 10.06am today (10 January) to reports of an incident on Park View Road, Welling.
“We sent an ambulance crew, a medic in a fast response car and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.
“We treated one person at the scene before taking them to hospital.”
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Officers were called at 09:28hrs on Tuesday, 10 January to Talehangers Close, Bexleyheath.
“It was reported that persons were acting suspiciously at the location.
“On arrival police found a man apparently having a mental health crisis.
“The man ran off to towards the Cricket Club on Park View Road.
“The man then began to self-harm and a taser was deployed in order to prevent further injury; he was detained under common law.
“London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended the scene.
“The man has been taken to hospital, his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
“Officers are working to inform his next of kin.”
