A driver from Plumstead has had their car clamped and seized after not paying more than 100 parking fines.
The car was clamped and seized by Bexley Council in Roseacre Road in Welling, on December 7, 2022, after the driver evaded over 100 parking fines for offences in and around Bexleyheath.
The driver’s offences included parking on yellow lines, pavements, parking in restricted zones outside schools, electric vehicle charging stations, loading areas, outside bay markings and in disabled parking bays.
A spokesperson for Bexley Council described the driver as a “persistent evader” with the earliest penalty charge notice dating back to September 2021.
In addition, the driver had also received fines for stopping in yellow box junctions, driving through bus lanes and not paying to park.
The car had been previously clamped in November this year but when agents returned to seize the vehicle, they discovered that the car was missing after the clamp had been forcibly removed.
This time the car was clamped and removed in a joint effort with enforcement agents and Bexley Council.
The car is currently being held in Newlyn’s pound and the driver will be given a chance to pay the outstanding charges before the car is put up for auction to recover the debt.
Bexley's Cabinet Member for Places, Peter Craske said: “Over the last 15 months this motorist committed the same contraventions repeatedly and went to extreme lengths to dodge paying the penalty charges.
“This person clearly has a blatant disregard for the rules of the road and safety of others.
“This will not be tolerated.
“We will work with our contractors following the statutory process to seize vehicles to recover the debt.
“I applaud the Council officers involved and our partners Newlyn PLC, for tracking down this careless driver’s car and taking it off the road, which I’m sure was a time-consuming and very difficult task.”
