Two adults and a child were led to safety by firefighters in specialist gear from an address opposite a fire at a barber shop in Bellingham.
Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to the shop on Randlesdown Road at 10.10am yesterday (December 13).
Half of the basement was damaged by the fire, but nobody was injured in the blaze.
It was brought under control by 11.01am by fire crews from Lewisham, Forest Hill, Beckenham and Lee Green stations.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire at a barber shop on Randlesdown Road in Bellingham.
“Half of the basement was damaged by fire.
“Two adults and child were led to safety from an adjacent property by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.
“There were no reports of any injuries.
“The Brigade was called at 1010 and the fire was under control by 1101.
“Fire crews from Lewisham, Forest Hill, Beckenham and Lee Green fire stations attended the scene.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
