A Metropolitan Police officer is to be suspended after being charged with false imprisonment and assault.
The force said Pc Sam Grigg – attached to the South West Basic Command Unit – was charged on Thursday in relation to an alleged offence at a house in Twickenham, south-west London, on December 2.
Grigg was off duty at the time.
The Met said the suspect and the victim – a woman in her 20s – are known to each other. She suffered minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.
The offence was reported on Tuesday and Grigg is due to appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
Commander Jon Savell, who is in charge of the Met’s professional standards team, said: “I recognise this news will cause concern and I would like to reassure the public that we took immediate steps as soon as the report was received by police.
“As criminal proceedings are now active, it would be inappropriate to comment further.”
A statement from the force added that the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed and a referral will be made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
