Four long years since England's semi-final heartbreak in Russia, Gareth Southgate's side is now preparing for the World Cup in Qatar.
The three lions lost out to Croatia in Moscow, followed by a devastating penalty loss to Italy in the Euro 2020 final.
The Qatar World Cup will start with Qatar vs Ecuador on November 20, with England’s first game against Iran on November 21.
England will also play the USA on November 25 and Wales on November 29 in the group stages of the tournament.
While preparing for the tournament, we asked south east Londoners if Gareth is the right man to end England's 56 years of hurt.
Here’s what you had to say:
Robert Amos said: “Of course. He took us to The Euro finals, he is a good man manager and seems to have the trust of the players.”
Tracey Tugwell said: “Definitely 110 per cent.
“He's a great manager and a genuinely nice guy a good role model four our young England players.”
Lorraine Hughes said: “Absolutely he is. No other manager has got us anywhere in a competition.
“Gareth Southgate has worked so hard with the team especially such a young squad of players. Team Gareth all the way.”
Janet Day said: “Most definitely, he's doing a fantastic job with the team. He seems to genuinely care about the players.
“I love the way he hugs them when they come off the pitch.”
Katie Bramley said: “Yes absolutely. 100 per cent. He has done wonders with the team.”
Peter Wilkes said: “Definitely yes, turned England around where most give him and the team support.”
However, some people were not as optimistic as each other.
Nigel Rodgers said: “Definitely NOT. He’s done a good job but now needs to step aside and let somebody like Mancini come in and play the young players coming through.
“Not to use Grealish, Foden and company was an absolute disgrace.
“Southgate is to negative, to try and defend a lead for nearly 90minutes was never going to happen.”
Darren Wade said: “Definitely not. All that talent on the bench and he plays defensively.”
Paul Palmer said: “I’m afraid not. Far too defence minded as proved against Italy trying to hold out for a one-nil win.
“We should have pushed for the second goal and basically killed the game off.”
Thomas Judge said: “No. Same mistake in World Cup against Croatia and again this time in the Euros against Italy.”
