A 21-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital after being stabbed late last night (November 4) in Lewisham.

Police and paramedics found the man with stab wounds in Bromley Road, Downham at 11.50pm.

He was taken to hospital where he is currently fighting for his life.

Police say that no arrests have been made at this stage and are now appealing for anyone with further information or witnesses to contact them quoting crime reference number 8645/04nov.

A section 60 is in place until 3am tomorrow morning (November 6) following this incident, meaning that police can stop and search anyone in the area without needing to have reasonable grounds.

London Ambulance Service have been contacted for further information.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:"We were called at 11:38pm yesterday (4 November) to reports of an incident at Bromley Road, BR1.

"We sent a number of resources to the scene including an ambulance crew, a medic in a fast response car and an incident response officer.

"We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance in two cars.

"We treated a person at the scene and took them to a major trauma centre as a priority."

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at 23.50hrs on Friday, 4 November, to a report of a stabbing in Bromley Road, Downham.

“Officers attended along with ambulance colleagues.

“They found a 21-year-old man suffering stab injuries.

“He was taken to hospital where his condition is critical.

“There has been no arrest at this early stage.

“Anyone with information or any witnesses who are yet to speak with police are asked to call 101, ref 8645/04nov.

“To remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers.”

Lewisham Police tweeted: “A Section 60 is in place until to 03:00hrs on 06 November within the area shown area after a 21-year-old man was found with stab injuries in Bromley Road, Downham.

“He remains in hospital in a critical condition.”
