A disabled social media influencer from Lewisham has been shortlisted for a national disability charity’s award.
Eliza Rainbow has been shortlisted for Influencer of the Year at the charity Sense’s annual awards to recognise her raising awareness of ableism on social media.
Known as Disabled Eliza online, Eliza started social media influencing in 2020 and has a following of over 150,000 across Instagram, TikTok, Twitter and YouTube.
Their content opens up about her own experiences as a young disabled person and fights harmful stereotypes about disability.
Eliza said: “I feel so grateful and pleased to have been shortlisted for the Sense Influencer of the Year award.
“I am so lucky that every day I get to wake up and do this job, meeting and connecting with amazing people and spreading disability education.
“I can't wait to see what the future brings, and I hope to reach more disabled people and spread more awareness as time goes on.”
Eliza is competing with three other disabled influencers for the Sense Award, including Toby Addison, Lauren Gilbert and Alice Ella.
Sense Chief Executive, Richard Kramer, said: “Eliza acts as a powerful voice online for disability rights, reaching thousands of people with their fun and engaging content.
“We are delighted to honour the work they are doing through this shortlist for a Sense Award.”
Sense is a national disability charity and supports people living with complex disabilities.
The Sense Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of disabled people as well as those who support them, including family members, carers, volunteers, staff, and fundraisers.
The winners of the awards will be announced on November 24.
