Police have issued an update on the condition of a driver involved in a crash in Dartford.

A black BMW M3 left the carriageway and overturned as it was travelling towards a slip road for Dartford Heath on October 8 at 10.30am.  

Officers, South East Coast Ambulance Service crews, and an air ambulance were called to the scene.  

Two passengers, a man and a woman in their 20s, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Tributes at the scene named the pair as Becky and Tom.

The driver, who was a man, was taken to a London hospital with serious injuries.  

A Kent Police spokesperson said today that the man remains in a serious condition. 

Both carriageways of the A2 were closed as the incident was dealt with.

It reopened at 9.30pm after an 11-hour closure, according to National Highways on Twitter.  

Investigators would like to speak to anybody who saw the BMW travelling along the coastbound carriageway of the A2 from Bexley towards Dartford Heath before the crash.  

Anyone with information should call the SCIU appeal line on 01622 798538 and quote reference RY/MS/111/22.  

Tributes have since been paid to the two that died.

Bouquets of flowers, cartoon characters and handwritten notes were left on the overpass above the scene.

One of the notes read: "We will keep you forever in our hearts and prayers, life won't be the same without you both.

"We will keep going strong for you and we can never forget the joy that you both brought to our lives.

"Words cannot describe how truly heartbroken we are that we will never see you both again.

“The memories we shared will be locked into our hearts and we cannot thank you for everything you have done for providing us all strength.

“Your legacies will live forever and we will all do you so proud."

In an update issued today by Kent Police said: “The man remains in a serious condition.

“The investigation is ongoing.” 

A spokesperson for Kent Police on October 8 said: “At around 10.30am on Saturday 8 October 2022, a black BMW M3 was travelling on the A2 towards the slip road for Dartford Heath, when it left the carriageway and overturned.  

“Officers attended the scene along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and the air ambulance.  

“Two passengers, a man and a woman in their 20s, were pronounced deceased at the scene. 

"The driver was taken to a London hospital with serious injuries.  

“Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit is carrying out enquiries and officers are appealing to anyone who saw what happened, or has relevant dashcam footage, to come forward.  

“In particular, investigators would like to speak to anybody who saw the vehicle travelling along the coastbound carriageway of the A2 from Bexley towards Dartford Heath prior to the collision.  

“Anyone with information should call the SCIU appeal line on 01622 798538 and quote reference quoting reference RY/MS/111/22.”
