The approach to Dartford Crossing was blocked both ways causing long delays for drivers due to a police incident last night.
Three fire engines and a height vehicle were called to A282 at 7.12pm by police at the scene.
At 8.29pm National Highways said: “The #A282 is now closed between J1a and J2 in both directions due to the ongoing @kent_police led incident.
“There are long delays of 45 minutes in both directions.”
The fire service said that their work in the area was over at 8.39pm.
A 9.04pm Kent Fire and Rescue tweeted: “The road closure on #A282 in #Dartford has now been lifted.
“Due to the amount of congestion, it is likely to take some time for traffic to return to normal.
“We appreciate your patience.
“Please take care and drive safely.”

Kent Fire and Rescue Service have said they cannot provide any further details about the incident.
Kent Police have been approached for more information.
A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: “KFRS was called at 7.12pm by Kent Police.
“Three fire engines and height vehicle were sent to the scene and our operations were complete at 8.39pm.”
