Police have launched an investigation into a fire at an unoccupied building in Dartford during the early hours of the morning.

The fire broke out in Lowfield Street just before 4.40am today.

It is believed the fire was started deliberately and it is being treated by officers as suspicious.

A police investigation is underway.

Three fire engines and crews wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze using high-pressure hose reel jets.

Firefighters also checked for any remaining hot spots near the building.

No injuries were reported following the incident.

The fire was under control by 6am.

A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a fire at an unoccupied building in Lowfield Street, Dartford.

“Three fire engines were sent to the property and crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire, before checking for any remaining hot spots.

“No injuries were reported.

“It’s believed the fire was started deliberately.

“Duty of care was left with Kent Police.”

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: “Kent Police was called by Kent Fire and Rescue Service at around 5am on Friday 7 October, to a fire at a building in Lowfield Street, Dartford.

“Officers attended the scene where fire crews extinguished the blaze.

“The fire is being treated as suspicious and an investigation into the circumstances is underway.

“Lowfield Street was closed to traffic while emergency services dealt with the fire and has now been reopened.”
