Police attended a house fire that killed a woman and hospitalised a man and child in Eltham alongside London Fire Brigade.
The fire broke out just before 4.40am at a home on Alderwood Road in Eltham on Thursday and police were called around the same time.
The man and a child left the building before the Brigade arrived and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued the woman via an internal staircase.
The man and child were taken to hospital and their conditions have been described as not life-threatening.
The 32-year-old woman was also taken to hospital where she later died.
Her family has been informed.
Police have launched an investigation following the house fire and are working with London Fire Brigade to uncover the cause of the fire.
Met police have said that no arrests have been made.
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at 04:41hrs on Thursday, 29 September after a fire was reported at a house in Alderwood Road, SE9.
“Officers attended along with the London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service.
“A 32-year-old woman was taken to hospital where she later died.
“Her next of kin have been informed.
“A man and a child were also taken to hospital where their conditions were assessed as not life-threatening.
“Detectives are working with colleagues from the London Fire Brigade to establish the cause of the fire.
“Enquiries are ongoing.
“There has been no arrest.”
