A man from Dartford has been jailed after he stabbed his victim in the hand after already robbing him of his phone.
Lewis Puddifoot, of Dickens Avenue in Dartford admitted to assault with intent to rob and possessing a bladed article in a public place on September 23, at Woolwich Crown Court.
He was sentenced to seven years in prison.
The victim was standing outside a restaurant on Hythe Street talking on his phone on January 23, 2022.
He was approached by Puddifoot at around 10.40pm who began demanding that the man hand over his phone.
Puddifoot, 41, then began threatening the victim with a knife and placed it against his neck.
He then asked the man if he “wanted to die” and threatened to stab him before taking the phone from the victim.
Even after Puddifoot had already taken the phone, he pushed the man to the ground and began attacking him.
A friend of the victim and another bystander heard the commotion and dragged off the injured victim.
Puddifoot then fled the area.
The victim then realised that he had been stabbed in the hand and was bleeding.
Police gained CCTV footage of the incident and shared pictures of the suspect with officers who were patrolling in the area.
At 11.55pm he was spotted standing outside a pub in another part of the town centre and was quickly arrested.
A member of the public found the knife hidden in the area surrounding the same pub at around 3am the following morning.
He was charged on Monday, January 24.
As well as his seven years imprisonment, Puddifoot is subject to an extended licence period of five years and forfeiture and destruction notice was also served.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Emma Laimbeer, of the Chief Kent Police’s Constable’s Crime Squad, said: “Puddifoot was an opportunist who saw his victim and targeted him for his mobile phone.
“Despite already taking possession of this he went on to assault the victim where he stabbed him in his hand before fleeing the area.
“His sentence reflects the seriousness of his offending and I hope the outcome provides some reassurance to the victim.”
