JIMMY Dack says he can't wait to take up the challenge at Park View Road after his appointment as Welling's assistant manager.
Dack had no hesitation in accepting the position after being offered the role by manager Andy Ford following the departure of Phil Handford.
This will not be the first time Dack and Ford have combined after the duo worked together as part of the coaching team which helped Stevenage reach the play-off final three years ago.
Dack was impressed by what he saw then and is looking forward to linking up with Ford again.
He said: "I was with Andy at Stevenage and was very impressed by him then.
"I have known him for a number of years and we've always got on, so I happily accepted the Welling job when he asked me to do it.
"Andy is a football man and has a first class knowledge of the game as well."
Dack's most recent position was as caretaker manager at Sutton United, although he declined the position when it was offered to him on a permanent basis.
He said: "Even though I played for Sutton, I turned the job down because I just felt it wasn't right for me.
"I've had other offers as well, but once Andy asked me to get involved with Welling, I simply couldn't turn it down.
"Park View Road is a ground I've always enjoyed coming to as both a player and a coach.
"Obviously things didn't go too well from them last year, but Andy and Phil did a brilliant job in turning it around when they came in."
Dack added: "Sometimes clubs have bad seasons and you just move on and learn from it.
"It wasn't too long ago Welling were right up there challenging for a play-off place under Ade Pennock and this is where we want to be again next season.
"Ade did an absolutely brilliant job there. I remember when I was a coach at Grays and we played Welling in the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy.
"We did eventually win the game, but for the first 75 minutes Welling were more than a match for us and I think it was only the fact we were full-time which cost them in the end."
