The traditional pantomime is a colourful and spectacular family event and is as much a part of the festive season as turkey and crackers.

But if the idea of seeing yet another Snow White seems unbearable why not try the Miskin Theatres Alice in Wonderland?

With a cast and crew of performing arts and design students, this version of the popular childrens book is a psychedelic 60s-style show providing a welcome alternative to traditional panto.

Rachel Phillips is playing Alice. She said the show promises all the interactive elements of panto with a groovier set and sound track.

She said: As soon as the audience come into the theatre they are transported to Wonderland as design students have worked with school children to transform the foyer into a psychedelic world.

The characters also come out during the interval and after the show to meet the children.

Phillips said playing Alice is hard work but a lot of fun.

She said: Alice goes through so much and gets messed about by all the characters.

But in this version she is an uppity small child. Shes not twee, but is very headstrong and she stands her ground.
