Spring Park Social Club's annual programme continued with John Rose speaking about his journey through Alaska - tracing the steps of those involved in the Klondike gold rush.
The talk was held on Thursday February 21 at St Mark's Hall, Braemar Gardens, West Wickham.
Mr Rose retraced the route taken by him and a number of other travellers, from Vancouver through to White Horse, up into Alaska and on to Dawson City near the Klondike River, which attracted huge numbers of prospectors in the final years of the 19th century.
The illustrated talk took attendees through the history of the period, the hazards faced by prospectors en route to the area and the ultimate disappointment many faced.
As if such obstacles were not enough, Mr Rose told how some who enjoyed a measure of good fortune could not count their blessings too soon - many were robbed on the return journey.
Spring Park Social Club's annual membership fee is £15.
