The BBC revealed that nine in 10 NHS dental practices in the UK are not accepting new adult patients under the health service.

People are now curious to see what local dentists in their area are accepting new patients. 

It comes as a third of over 200 council areas in the UK have no dentists taking any adult NHS patients, whilst eight in 10 NHS practices are no longer taking on children. 

The shortage of NHS dentists has seen some take to dangerous lengths with some in-need patients trying "DIY dentistry".

This has seen some desperate patients "making teeth out of resin and sticking them into their gums with superglue" according to the national director of Healthwatch England, Louise Ansari on the BBC Radio 4's Today programme. 

Many are blaming the lack of spaces for NHS dentists due to the backlog created by Covid-19 but the Department of Health said they made an extra £50 million available to "help bust the Covid backlogs."

And while there are private dentist practices available with the cost of living crisis and rise in inflation many would rather have the use of NHS dental treatment that although is not free for adults, is subsidised. 

As many in local communities face concern over finding an NHS dentist accepting patients in their area, South East London residents are in a rare spot. 

At the moment there are over 10 NHS dentists either accepting or taking on referrals for NHS patients.
