A man has died at the scene of a crash after a car overturned and fell down an embankment in Greenwich.
Officers, ambulance crews and an air ambulance flocked to the scene in Eastern Way in Thamesmead just before 11am today.
A car had overturned and stopped on its side down an embankment.
A man in his 40s was found injured, and later died at the scene at around 11.45am.
Police are tracing his next of kin.
As of around 12.45pm, the road is still closed and cordons remain in place while emergency services deal with the scene.
No other vehicles are thought to have been involved in the crash.
Police are asking any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to call 101 quoting reference number 2571/29JUL.
A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 10:56hrs on Friday, 29 July to reports of a car overturned at Eastern Way, SE28.
"Officers, London’s Air Ambulance [HEMS] and London Ambulance Service [LAS] attended.
"At the scene a vehicle had overturned and come to a stop on its side down an embankment.
"At the scene a man, aged 40s, was found injured.
"Despite the efforts of HEMS medic the man sadly died at the scene at 11:46hrs.
"Enquiries are underway to notify next of kin.
"Road closures and cordons remain in place while emergency services deal with the scene.
"No other vehicles are thought to have been involved in the collision.
"Anyone who witnessed this incident or has dash-cam footage should call police on 101 quoting 2571/29JUL."
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 10:58am today (29 July) to reports of a road traffic collision on Eastern Way, Erith.
“We sent an ambulance crew, two paramedics in response cars, an incident response officer, and members of our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).
"We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.
“The first of our medics arrived at the scene in under six minutes. Sadly, a man died at the scene.”
