A Bexleyheath man has made it to the final of Shed of the Year with the miniature bar that he made with his dad who passed away in January.
Dean Scoggins, 38, designed the shed using sketches he drew out on the back of a beer mat while in the pub with his dad.
The name of the miniature boozer, Small Bar One, is a play on words of the popular cocktail bar All Bar One where he met his wife, Joanna.
The shed is now sitting in the top three of the pub/entertainment section in the Shed of the Year competition.
It was completely built from scratch during 2020/21, but Dean says “it is never finished” as he is always adding to it.
Dean said: “I am very proud of it all, from renovating the sash window that I picked up on eBay to doing the electrics all myself.
“I had no professional help in doing it, other than my cousin checking off the electrics for me.
“It's quite an emotional thing as having built it with my dad, he passed away from Pancreatic Cancer in January this year.
“It was a 14-month battle and we were able to have his Birthday party in there last year.
“I have pictures of the build with him and will cherish those memories forever.
“He was amazing at DIY so was my go-to for everything.
“Now I can raise a glass to him each time I go in there.”
Dean describes the shed as a speakeasy type bar where the outside barely reveals what's inside.
Small Bar One boasts cocktails, casino games and sports.
Dean explained: “My boys love watching the football with me in the shed and the roars can sometimes be heard from the house - It's our happy place.
“We play darts together, games in there and my daughter has requested a disco birthday party 'in the bar' with her friends this year - she's going to be 6!
“We've made the shed another room, we say 'we're going out' when we go out to the shed and dress up like we are going out.”
