There’s nothing quite like a little fatherly advice - whether it’s asked for or not.
They can joke, complain, and tell some awkward truths.
‘Check your tyre pressure’, ‘remember your helmet’, and ‘don’t spend it all at once’ are some classic guidance from our beloved dads, and who can forget the legendary ‘I don’t know, ask your mother’.
We asked News Shopper readers to tell us the best advice they ever received from their dads and found some spot-on responses.
Here is what they had to say -
Leah Foley said: “To put the wood in the hole – we wasn’t born in a barn.”
Leanne Martins said: “Don’t get married.”
Joelle Gilbert said: “Brake, brake – he said on my first driving lesson when he took me on a dark unlit country road after saying ‘gie it welly, gie it welly’ meaning go faster.
“He got very excited when I asked where the brake is.”
Gordon Chilvers said: “Good manners will never make anyone your enemy.”
Hanna Settle said: “One man’s rubbish, is another man’s treasure.”
Soph Eliza said: “Never trust a man who doesn’t like football.”
