A brand-new night market is opening in Bexleyheath as part of Bexley Council’s push to save our high streets.
The night market, which is set to open on June 24, will run on the last Friday of every month and showcase local traders, including street food and craft beer, as well as live music and DJs.
It is being funded through the Mayor of London’s High Streets for All programme as a way to regenerate Bexleyheath town centre.
A spokesperson for Bexley Council said: “Traders will offer a range of specialist products and traditional items.
“Three of the market’s stalls will feature products from young entrepreneurs in the Borough and this will be managed in conjunction with expert partners.
“You’ll be able to discover delicious and affordable street food, local artisan products, craft beers, cocktails and more while listening to the sounds of musicians.
“There will be fun activities for the kids to enjoy while you relax into your weekend.
“Some of the local businesses will extend their opening hours for the occasion to support the night-time economy in Bexleyheath.”
Through surveys and discussions with the local community, the Council found that it was important to work with young people on the future of the town centre which is why young entrepreneurs have been involved in the project.
The Bexley Council spokesperson added: “The High Streets for All partnership brings together experienced individuals and organisations from various sectors and disciplines who have an interest in Bexleyheath’s future.
“The partners are passionate about finding solutions to the immediate recovery as well as the longer-term future of Bexleyheath.
“A series of events and activities are being developed to test new approaches to revitalise Bexleyheath town centre.”
The market will run each month up until October at Bexleyheath Market Place from 6pm to 10pm.
Free parking will be available for the duration of the night market’s opening times at the Broadway Square car park on Highland Road.
