To honour Her Majesty The Queen’s exceptional 70 years of service, we’ve rounded up some memorable times she visited south London.

Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, is the first British monarch to celebrate 70 years on the throne – and what better way to celebrate than a four-day bank holiday.

Beginning this Thursday (June 2) until Sunday, June 5, boroughs across south London will be hosting street parties and celebrations to mark this historic milestone.

The official celebrations will kick off on Thursday, with the Trooping of Colour – which marks the Queen’s official birthday, while Party at the Palace will air live from Bucking Palace on Saturday, May 4.

As we prepare for the Platinum jubilee celebrations, take a look back at our favourite memories of Her Majesty visiting the south London boroughs.

Greenwich – April 25, 2012

In 2012, Greenwich was declared a Royal Borough as part of Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

On April 25, 2012, the Queen reopened Cutty Sark, the historic sailing ship, following a major conservation project – her visit came almost 55 years after she had opened the ship to the public in 1957.

Bromley – May 12, 2012

Thousands lined the streets to greet the Queen in May 2012 as part of her Diamond Jubilee tour.

Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh were met by flag-waving school children who cheered and sang choruses of the National Anthem as they arrived in the Queen’s Gardens.

The Queen enjoyed a cup of tea with couples celebrating their diamond wedding anniversaries that year.

Kenneth and Averil Holdaway, both 85, were celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.

Mrs Holdaway sat next to the Queen at the tea party and said: "It all went too quickly but it was an experience I will remember forever."

Mitcham – May 12, 2012

Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh visited St Mark’s Academy in Acacia Road as part of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Well-wishers lined the streets to see the Queen in her Royal car before arriving at St Mark's Academy where she was given a lively welcome by students.

During her two hour visit to the school, the Queen enjoyed a British picnic-themed lunch with some of South London’s ‘achievers’.

Richmond – May 15, 2012

 The Queen arrived in Richmond Park under the cover of an umbrella as an onslaught of sleet and rain took hold.

Members of the public attended to catch a glimpse of the Her Royal Highness and many famous faces attended the visit – such as the Harlequins players, the mayor of Richmond and Sir David Attenborough.

Morden – October 11, 2019

Queen Elizabeth met armed forces veterans and the ex-service community as she visited the Haig Housing development near Modern.

There to officially open the charity's 70 new homes for veterans and their families, she met Ken Souter, 100, who flew with the RAF in North Africa during the Second World War.
