A man has been jailed after stealing a mix of items from a Sainsbury’s store in New Cross while armed with a knife.
Renato Costa-Carvalho admitted to stealing five bottles of Jack Daniels, two protein shakes and Kinder chocolate, valuing £85.15, from Sainsbury’s in New Cross Road on March 29, 2022.
The 35-year-old also admitted to possessing a lock knife at the same location on the same date during a hearing at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on April 25, 2022.
Costa-Carvalho, who is homeless, was jailed for six months for each offence – ordered to run concurrently.
He was “offending to feed a drug habit” according to the courts.
Costa-Carvalho must also pay a surcharge to victim services of £128, but was not ordered to pay costs as a result of his immediate custodial sentence.
He must pay the £128 by October 31, 2022.
