A man from Lewisham has appeared in court over his "dangerously out of control" Rottweiler which injured a woman.

Jose Ondu was found guilty of being in charge of a dog, a black half Rottweiler, which was dangerously out of control in Downham Health and Leisure Centre in Moorside Road on August 24, 2020.

The dog, Cairo, was so out of control it injured a woman.

Ondu, 28, pleaded not guilty to the offence at a summary trial at Bexley Magistrates' Court on April 26.

Ondu, of Catford Hill, was ordered to pay £364 for the onffence - including a £125 fine, £120 in compensation, £34 to fund victim services and £85 in CPS costs.

The judge said that if Cairo is not kept under proper control by being securely held on a lead by a person who is older than 16, and securely fitted with a muzzle sufficient to stop it biting someone, it must be destroyed.

The judge added that they were satisfied this was a single incident and that they have seen evidence of the dog's "positive temperament".

Ondu must pay £120 per month starting on May 27.
