A man and a woman have been treated by ambulance crews after escaping a house fire in Welling.

Firefighters were called to Deepdene Road today (May 1) shortly after 6.15am.

The ground floor and half of the first floor were “badly damaged” by the blaze.

Two people left the building before the arrival of the Brigade.

They were both treated by London Ambulance crews for smoke inhalation.

The fire was under control by 7.56am.

Fire crews from Bexley, Plumstead, Eltham, Erith, Sidcup and East Greenwich fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters tackled a house fire on Deepdene Road in Welling.

“The whole of the ground floor and half of the first floor was badly damaged by the blaze.

“A man and a woman left the building before the Brigade arrived.

“They were both suffering from smoke inhalation and treated by London Ambulance Service crews.

“The Brigade was called at 6.16am and the fire was under control by 7.56am.

“Fire crews from Bexley, Plumstead, Eltham, Erith, Sidcup and East Greenwich fire stations were at the scene.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
