A man from Thamesmead has been charged after an incident involving police in Westminster.

According to police, two Ministry of Defence officers were approached by a man with a knife at Horse Guards Parade yesterday morning (April 18).

A taser was used and a man was restrained by police officers.

Prashanth Kandajah, 29, has been charged with attempted grievous bodily harm.

Kandajah, of Mellion Close in SE28, is also accused of possessing a knife.

Whitehall was shut for several hours after the incident.

Kandajah will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ court later today (April 19).

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “A man has been charged following an incident at Horse Guards Parade in Westminster on Monday morning.

“Prashanth Kandajah, 29 (15.10.92) of Mellion Close, SE28 was charged on Tuesday, 19 April with attempted section 18 grievous bodily harm and possession of a pointed/bladed article.

“He will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court later today.”
