Eastenders favourites Adam Woodyatt and Laurie Brett are reunited as husband and wife - but this time, on stage.
Both stars will be performing in the chilling production of Peter James’ best-selling novel, Looking Good Dead, which will be showing at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley from Monday April 18 – Saturday, April 23, 2022.
Adam - who is playing the star role as father, husband, and businessman, Tom Bryce, says the show is “very dark with an awful lot of humour”
He added: “It’s quite bizarre, you wouldn’t expect a murder mystery would have this much humour in, but it has.”
Looking good dead follows the story of Tom Bryce – a man who finds a USB memory stick left behind on a train seat and inserts it into his computer.
Inadvertently, Tom becomes a witness to a vicious murder, and reporting the crime to the police has “disastrous” consequences, placing his family in grave danger.
Adam told the News Shopper: “Peter James’ story is excellent, and the script has been adapted beautifully.
“It’s got thrills, fun, twists and turns and I am confident that people can have a lovely evening or afternoon out.
“Plus, you can get an ice cream in the interval.”
Adam says he thoroughly enjoys a “good thriller” and adds that it can be “great way to get adrenalines pumping”.
He added: “If we can draw people in and make them believe everything and end with a sharp intake of breath, then I think we have done our job.
“It’s one of those chances to get a thrill in a safe space.”
Adam is the longest serving cast member in EastEnders, having appeared continuously as Ian Beale since the show began in 1985.
Looking Good Dead marks Adam’s return to stage in a play for the first time since 1982 as a 13-year-old at the National Theatre in Tom Stoppard’s, On The Razzle.
“It’s completely different working on stage compared to TV” Adam says, as he claims that stage performers receive immediate feedback on stage – through the “laughs or gasps.”
Adam explained: “Even if you do a film, it's months if not years before you actually get feedback and find out if people enjoyed it.
“Being on stage, you know straight away through the laughs and the gasps, or sometimes you can hear a pin drop if the audiences are listening.”
Adam and Laurie famously starred as the much-loved, on-screen couple Ian and Jane Beale in BBC’s EastEnders.
Adam told the News Shopper that it’s “great” to be working with Laurie again, as it’s “easy and comfortable” for both stars.
Adam added: “There is a familiarity that is just there.
“We just know each other so well and it makes it a very, very easy job.”
The tour began in July last year and Tom, Laurie and cast have been on the road “ever since” – Adam says.
Adam added: “One of my favourite things about being on tour is seeing different parts of the country.
“I loved visiting Newcastle – they have a stunning beach.
“We had a lovely company day out at the beach in Tynemouth too.”
In addition to EastEnders, Adam has appeared on many TV programmes - including Robot Wars, Dream House, Celebrity MasterChef, and was a recent contestant on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here.
Adam says his experience on I’m A Celeb was “great fun” and if he was offered the opportunity again, he would “jump” to it.
Adam added: “I loved it.
“I was gutted I couldn’t do an actual eating trial.
“I haven’t watched the show back, but we had an awful lot of fun and enjoyed each other's company.”
Looking Good Dead will be showing at the Churchill Theatre from Monday, April 18 to Saturday, April 23.
