A person has died after being hit by a train near Ravensbourne station.

Emergency services were called to reports of a casualty on the tracks just after 6.50am this morning.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Southeastern Rail tweeted at around 7.15am that a person was hit by a train and all lines between Shortlands and Nunhead were closed.

The lines then reopened at around 10am following the incident, according to a statement from Southeastern.

Southeastern said trains between these lines may still be cancelled or delayed until 11am.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the line near Ravensbourne at 6.53am this morning (16 March) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

A statement from Southeastern said: "Lines have reopened between Shortlands and Nunhead following the earlier incident where a person was hit by a train.

"Trains may still be cancelled or delayed until approximately 11am.

"A person was hit by a train between Shortlands and Nunhead earlier this morning.

"The emergency services are dealing with the incident.

"The line has been reopened, but due to a number of diversions, Southeastern services which run via Bromley South or Sevenoaks have been delayed and may be revised or cancelled whilst we work to get them back on time."
