Two people have been taken to hospital after a chemical incident at Crook Log Leisure centre in Bexleyheath.

Emergency services were called to reports of a strong smell of chemicals at the centre in Brampton Road at around 3.15pm yesterday.

According to London Fire Brigade there had been a suspected accidental mix of chemicals.

Around 60 people left the building before firefighters arrived.

Firefighters implemented a 25m hazard zone and crews carried out a search of the building to determine if there were elevated chemical readings.

Three people were treated at the scene of the incident.

Two people were then taken to hospital by London Ambulance services.

A third person declined further medical treatment however they were given clear advice about ringing 999 or 111 if their condition changed.

Two fire engines and two fire rescue units got to the scene at around 3pm and were still there at 5.30pm.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters were called to reports of a strong smell of chemicals at a leisure centre on Brampton Road in Bexleyheath this afternoon.

“There has been a suspected accidental mix of chemicals.

“Around 60 people evacuated the building before the Brigade arrived.

“Firefighters have implemented a 25m hazard zone and crews are carrying out a sweep of the building to determine if there are any elevated chemical readings.

“Two people have been taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

“The Brigade was called at 1500 and crews are still on the scene.

"Two fire engines and two fire rescue units are in attendance.”

A further statement from London Ambulance Service said:

“We were called at 3:16pm today (8 March) to reports of an incident on Brampton Road, Bexleyheath.

"We sent members of our hazardous area response team, a command support vehicle, an incident response officer and an ambulance crew.

"We treated two people at the scene and took them to hospital.

“We treated a third person at the scene, however they declined further treatment.

“They were given clear advice about ringing 999 or 111 back if their condition changed."
