There are lengthy delays on approach to the Blackwall tunnel which closed after a vehicle caught fire inside.
A crash in the northbound tunnel saw the crossing, which connects Greenwich and Poplar, shut at around 1pm.
Fire services have attended the scene to recover the vehicles affected.
Congestion in stretching to Woolwich Road flyover, with further delays through Greenwich, Deptford and Charlton as traffic diverts.

Drivers have also been warned to expect delays on alternative river crossings, such as the Rotherhithe Tunnel.
A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: "We were called to a car fire in Blackwall Tunnel in Greenwich, two fire engines and around ten firefighters attended from East Greenwich fire station.
"The Brigade was called at 1249 and the fire was under control by 1324.
"The vehicle was significantly damaged by the fire."
