Orpington tennis star Emma Raducanu says she no longer feels safe in her own home after a 35-year-old man was found guilty of stalking her.
Amrit Magar, from Edgeware, was seen in doorbell camera footage outside the 19-year-old’s family home leaving notes and cards late last year, the Daily Mail reports.
He was convicted at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Friday and will be sentenced at a later date.
In a statement to the court, Raducanu said: “Since all this has happened, I have felt creeped out.
“I feel very apprehensive if I go out, especially if I am on my own.
"Because of this I feel like my freedom has been taken away from me. I am constantly looking over my shoulder.
“I feel on edge and worried this could happen again. I don't feel safe in my own home which is where I should feel safest."
Magar first visited the Raducanu family home on November 23, arriving with a bouquet of flowers and a note which read “you deserve love.”
After being confronted by Miss Raducanu's parents, he claimed he was a delivery driver dropping off gifts from someone else.
He returned several times in December, on one occasion leaving on note revealing he had walked 23 miles from his house to reach her.
Two days later, he decorated a garden tree with fairly lights before stealing one of Mr Raducanu’s shoes from the porch.
Mr Raducanu was notified of Magar’s presence by a doorbell camera. He followed him to a bus stop before calling the police.
District Judge Sushil Kumar said: “His inability to explain how he did not think this was harassment is incapable of belief.”
Born in Canada to a Chinese mother and Romanian father, Emma moved to London when she was aged just two.
She started playing tennis at the age of five, attending Bickley Primary School followed by Newstead Wood School in Orpington.
She made headlines in 2021 by reaching the fourth round of Wimbledon at her first attempt, and two months later, she became the first British woman to win a Grand Slam singles title since Virginia Wade in 1977, claiming the US Open title.
