A Spanish teacher from Beckenham has been recognised for the success of her classes despite the adverse and ongoing impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sandi Gomez, 41, owns La Piñata Language Club offering Spanish classes for children in and around the Beckenham Bromley both in person and online.
Last month she was invited to Warner Bro's studios 'The Making of Harry Potter' in London after she was named as a finalist in the 15th National What's On 4 Kids Activities Awards 2021.
Sandi was nominated in the 'Most Loved Academic Activity' after recognition "for the quality of her teaching, innovation, and growth of her business".
"I am extremely proud to have make the finals as there were literally thousands of entries plus, it is such a strong category and one that everyone wants to win!" She said.
"The last 18 months have been really tough for everyone with the children’s activity industry taking a massive hit, as schools and venues suddenly closed, then on re-opening, there have been so many restrictions affecting how classes can run, so it’s a huge boost to me to be recognised in this way".
The Spanish teacher with Tutor Natalia teaches Spanish to babies, toddlers, pre-school and primary age children in Beckenham, using the award winning La Jolie Ronde Programme.
The pair were forced to move their classes online during the worst moments of the pandemic, but as parents said their classes remained fantastic throughout.
"My son has been attending Spanish lessons with La Piñata Language Club for five years. He is now nine years old. He looks forward to his weekly sessions and always enjoys them," Beckenham parent Angela Ghouse said. "Sandi makes them fun and interactive which has always helped him to absorb and remember the learning. He has made great progress and is confident in using his language skills... She clearly cares deeply for the children and works hard to help them progress."
Alexandra Gibbons from Battersea Park said her son Mickey aged seven also enjoyed La Piñata: "Mickey has been attending Sandi's Spanish classes for 2 years. I am a Spanish speaker myself but couldn't get him to follow a conversation or concentrate. However, with La Pinata's classes being structured and progressive, he is now able to speak and interact with my family which is great".
