Our reporter Immy Share was lucky enough to go and see Sleeping Beauty at Bromley’s Churchill Theatre on Tuesday night – and here’s what she thought.
The curtains were drawing open at 7pm and at 6.59pm I ran into Churchill Theatre as a sweaty, out of breath victim of London’s ever-delayed public transport.
I headed to my seats in the stalls which were right in the middle of the row and sat down in much need of a large glass of rose and something to take my mind off a busy day of work and the hustle and bustle of travelling round London with somewhere to be.
And, Sleeping Beauty at Churchill Theatre did just that.

I was morphed into a magical world of sparkle, humour, entertainment and music and I soon became engulfed into theatrical genius.
(The large glass of rose came in the interval.)
The actors and actresses were brilliantly engaging and funny – and to have kids and adults laughing hysterically is nothing less than a work of art.
I felt dazzled, amazed and all-round happy as I watched.
From appropriately funny jokes about lockdowns and the pandemic, to water soakers aiming for kids in the audience – Churchill’s showing of Sleeping Beauty was bang on.
And, wicked Carabosse, or Myra Dubois’, wig flying off in what was an (I think accidental) unforgettable mishap probably made the show.
Lloyd Hollett played Muddles so cleverly, and Bonnie Langford was the all-glittering, all-soft and all-smiling fairy we have definitely all dreamed of being.
Lee Mead was a handsome Prince Harry and Claudillea Holloway was the gorgeous Beauty, who both so elegantly told the true Sleeping Beauty story.
My friend did turn to me when Beauty came out in her wedding dress to suggest that my ever-loving pink and sparkly self would probably wear similar to my eventual wedding.
I didn’t disagree – and did feel an element of jealousy of Claudillea actually getting to wear that incredible costume.
Her wedding dress (not pictured) was among an array of striking, dazzling costumes and set backdrops which showed the sheer detail and talent that went into creating the show.
Sleeping Beauty referred to Bromley, it’s neighbouring areas, the News Shopper (claim to fame!!!) and some really relevant, appt. things going on in the world right now.
It wasn’t just a pantomime – it was a fantastic representation of how kids and adults alike can sit in one room and all genuinely laugh, bond over the goings-on of the world, and dream of that perfect fairy-tale.
If you can, go and see Sleeping Beauty at Bromley’s Churchill theatre while it’s showing this week.
It’s got that Christmas-y relaxation, laughter and feel that we all oh-so-desperately need.
