SHOPPERS in Welling have started to comply with the new mandatory face coverings rules in shops.
News Shopper visited three supermarket chains, Morrisons, Tesco and Lidl- in Welling High Street.
We went to see how many people had taken up the Government rule on wearing masks indoors.
We spent approximately ten minutes outside each store.
In Morrisons, a total of 50 people were recorded entering and leaving the supermarket.
Out of these 50 people, 25 people left with their masks remaining on.
Six people took their masks off before leaving the building.
12 of the 50 residents who entered the store were wearing masks and seven were without.
Mark, from Welling, told the News Shopper that it is “great for masks to return.”
He said: “It’s great for masks to return, I now feel safe when going out to shopping, then I did before.”
Our trip to Tesco on Embassy Court saw another 50 residents go in and out of the building.
17 people had left the store with their face covering on and eight people without.
Another 20 people entered with a mask and five without.
It was a quiet morning at Lidl on Upper Wickham Lane, as 25 shoppers were recorded.
11 residents kept their masks on as they left the store and five entered without.
Six shoppers had taken them off leaving the building and three had kept it on.

Met Police Chief Constable Owen Weatherill said: “We will support transport and retail
staff in ensuring people wear face coverings in line with the regulations.
“We will work closely with businesses and will continue to respond to incidents where individuals are violent or abusive towards staff or members of the public.
“If officers encounter individuals not wearing a face covering on public transport or in shops, they will engage with them, explain the risks and encourage them to comply with the new rules.”
