A man has been arrested following an attempted burglary in Woolwich.

Police say the suspect attempted to break into the Sports Direct store in SE18.

It allegedly happened in the early hours of Thursday morning.

A man was stopped and searched and then arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary, according to officers.

He was "swiftly dealt with" by the Greenwich Police response team who "happened to be just around the corner".

Greenwich Police said: "#Burglar Arrested.

"Male arrested in SE18 for attempting to Break into store last night in the early hours.

"Stopped and Searched.

"Arrested for attempt burglary, swiftly dealt with by our response team who happen to be just around the corner."
