Detectives appeal after woman's body found in Kidbrooke Park

A murder investigation was launched on Sunday (September 19) after a woman's body was found near the Onespace community centre in Kidbrooke Park in south east London

Police were called at around 5.30pm on Saturday, September 18 after the body was discovered near a community centre in Kidbrooke Park Road, SE3.

Officers believe they know the identity of the woman, aged in her 20s, but are awaiting formal identification. Her next of kin have been informed.

In an updated statement, police say they are urging both witnesses and those with information to come forward.

Local residents can also expect to see an increased police presence and high visibility patrols following the "shocking" incident.

The investigation is led by Detective Chief Inspector Jim Shirley. He said: "The victim was found near the OneSpace community centre in Kidbrooke Park, which is a facility used by lots of people.

"The park itself is well known for dog walkers and joggers at all hours. Users of the park may have vital information that could help us.

“Were you in or around the park area at around 20:30hrs on Friday, 17 September? Did you see someone loitering or acting suspiciously?

"Or, did you see someone leaving the area in a hurry, perhaps running away? If you have any information, it is vital you tell us.

"We are working around the clock to deliver justice for the family of this young woman, and we need your help to do it. Please contact 0208 721 4266, or 101. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers."

At around 21:20hrs on 18 September, police attended an address in Lewisham and arrested a man on suspicion of murder. He has been taken into custody at a south London police station.

A man arrested at an address in Lewisham later on Saturday in connection with the investigation remains in custody.

A number of crime scenes are in place and enquiries are ongoing.

Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry, South East BCU Commander said: "We are doing all we can to support our colleagues in Specialist Crime with their investigation. Local people can expect to see an increased police presence and high visibility patrols following this shocking incident.
