A cosmetics store in Woolwich has been ordered to pay thousands in fines after admitting to ignoring Covid restrictions and continuing trading during lockdown.
During an undercover operation run by the Trading Standards team across Royal Greenwich, an ex-police officer working with the team was sold a scarf and mascara by Sabina Hair and Cosmetics Ltd and Rihanna Hair.
These products were sold on February 18, 2021, when owner Ghulam Mustafa and his companies had already been fined £14,000 for previous breaches.
Mr Mustafa and company Woolwich Sabina Hair and Cosmetics Ltd were found guilty for this breach on August 18, 2021 at Bexley Magistrates Court and given a fine of £3,280.
Cllr Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member for Safer Communities said: “As the country considers what measures need to be taken to protect the NHS from an increase in cases of illness, this prosecution reminds us that we should all be doing our bit to help get keep COVID-19 under control.”
A spokesperson for Greenwich Council said although restrictions have eased now, action will be taken against those businesses not following protocol.
