Hopes for a sunny and hot bank holiday weekend are no more as the Met Office predicts a cloudy few days.
At the beginning of the week, the forecast looked as though the weekend would be brighter than in recent weeks - but in true English weather style, the Met Office predictions have now changed.
Although some sunny spells are forecast throughout the bank holiday, the weather will mainly be cloudy and mild.
Saturday will have highs of 21 degrees, Sunday 22 degrees and Monday 23 degrees.
Sunny spells will begin throughout the early hours of the morning on Saturday, changing quickly to cloud by around 10am.
On Sunday, the sunshine will stop at around 1pm and again be replaced by cloudy skies.
Monday will see a sunnier evening but will be cloudy throughout the day.
There is no rain forecast throughout the bank holiday weekend.
A Met Office spokesperson told the News Shopper in mid-August that there were no signs of "particularly warm conditions" to come.
They also warned of the continuing possibility thunder and showery downpours.
September, however, might be slightly warmer than usual – but the Met Office has reiterated that temperatures will fluctuate.
Forecast in full:
Friday night: Cloud breaking for most areas, to give clear spells, and the chance of the odd patch of mist or fog. Cloud increasing across Kent, however, with the odd shower possible. Minimum temperature 10 °C.
Saturday: Isolated fog soon lifting, with variable cloud amounts and sunny spells following. Eastern coasts breezier, with cloud across Kent thick enough at times to give the odd spot of rain. Maximum temperature 23 °C.
Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday: Dry with sunny spells once morning fog clears, although Kent cloudier with showers Sunday. Also cloudier Tuesday with the odd spot of rain possible. Temperatures near normal. Breezy along coasts.
