A charity for blind people has called for the sale of e-scooters to be banned in London after a three-year-old suffered life changing injuries.
The girl was with her family in Myatts Field Park, Camberwell, at around 8.30pm on Monday (July 20) when she was hit.
On Sunday morning, 16-year-old Junior Shay Alexander died after being knocked down while riding an e-scooter on Southborough Lane.
The National Federation of the Blind UK (NFBUK) claims that e-scooters are making pavements unsafe for pedestrians, describing them as “absolutely terrifying.”
Sarah Gayton from NFBUK told the BBC: "There should be an amnesty in London so people can just drop their e-scooters off so they don't have to worry about trying to dispose of them."
The charity says there have been 10 serious injuries as a result of collisions, and one fatality since the start of 2021.
Around 1,200 rental e-scooters are being trialled across eight London boroughs, including Southwark and some parts of Lambeth.
E-scooters are also available in Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea, Richmond, Tower Hamlets and Canary Wharf.
They can be used on roads, in cycle lanes and on cycle paths, but are banned from being ridden on pavements.

Private e-scooters can only legally be used in the UK on private land but are a common sight on roads and pavements regardless.
The Met was alerted to the Myatts Field Park incident on Tuesday after the girl’s condition deteriorated.
She is in a stable condition, but her injuries have been assessed as life-changing. Her next of kin are being supported by specialist officers.
Police have asked the e-scooter rider, who stopped after the incident to say sorry, to come forward.
Appealing for witnesses to the crash, Junior Shay Alexander’s parents said they are in shock and “struggling to come to terms with the fact that our beautiful son is gone”.
The family said in a statement on Wednesday: “He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, grandson, and all those who knew him loved him.
“As we continue to deal with his unbearable loss, we would ask that any witnesses to the incident please contact police. Any information – no matter how small – could be relevant.”
The driver, a 20-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a collision, causing death by dangerous driving, and providing a positive alcohol breath test. He was taken into custody and later released on bail pending further inquiries.
Officers have also arrested a 46-year-old man on suspicion of theft after the disappearance of the e-scooter, which they believe was stolen from the scene of the collision.
