MARY and Joseph were brought to Kent for the staging of an unusual nativity play.

All the traditional characters such as the shepherds and three kings came to find baby Jesus in Kent in Joe Carpenter And Son, a play written by Graham Clarke from Maidstone.

It was performed at St George's Church, Church Street, Gravesend on December 14 and December 15.

Churchgoers took on the traditional roles while children from Holy Trinity School, Trinity Road, Gravesend, played the host of angels.

Along with the usual characters, there was a Kentish camel and angel Gabriel is a postman with an old-fashioned bike.

The rector of St George's Church, Canon Chris Stone, said: "It went very well indeed.

"We were really pleased almost 400 people turned up."
